About the website

As an independent scholar, I’ve studied guitar and music on my own since 1996. Everything I have to share on this website is based upon my real-life experience. Over the course of my life I’ve found a number of things to be particularly helpful – lessons from some truly great scholars and the discoveries I’ve made through trial and observation. Essentially, they are the things I wish I had understood from the very beginning. This does not attempt to be a complete course in guitar or music theory, but I try to cover a few points that I feel are indispensable knowledge for a musician.

This website includes my writings and, where applicable, musical examples in standard notation and guitar tab, audio examples and video demonstrations. I will try to make everything as accessible as possible, with online streaming availability or downloadable file options. Everything is free, please leave feedback and make this an interactive place.

I’d recommend first reading the Introduction page

Thank you for visiting.

I echo Ryan’s sentiments. I’ve bee a big fan of yours for, I don’t know, seven years now? I’m glad to see you’ve got a new site up and running. It always made me sad to type in the old URL and get nothing. Keep on keepin’ on, and post new stuff whenever you’ve got it! I have a few friends that are going to be happy once I tell them about the new site. :)

    Hello Alexander,

I am a student at the consevatory in Ghent (BE) where I study Classical guitar.
We are also working on some contemporary music with a electric guitar trio/quartet and we would like to play your piece “Electric Guitar Trio in F#m, Mvt. 3 “.
Would you be so kind to send me a digital copy or midi file?

Thank you very much and congrats on the site and work!

    best
    Hans
